The situation such as many peoples holding up banners written insistence, throwing stones at stores of Japanese companies and shouting out "we're against Japanese becoming a parmanent member of the United Nations Security Council" or "Japan must reconpemse histrical crime" is extensively broadcasted from morning to till night. In Beijing, windows of Japanese embassy was broken and in Shanghi some Japanese students were beated just because they are Japanese. If you don't know this incident, read some articles below.
http://mdn.mainichi.co.jp/news/archive/200504/09/20050409p2a00m0dm009000c.html
This is a article of a Japanese media. I tried to find articles from Chinese media, however, I couldn't. Instead of that, I found a article about History textbook approved by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (complecated!) from Chinese media. http://www.chinanews.cn/news/2004/2005-03-26/2836.shtml
When I discuss this incident with my Japanese friends, a friend said Japanese feel disgusted such riot in China and also in Korea. Because this kind of news are broadcasted in every season of the screening textbook.
I think there lies some gaps between Japan and China. First is a difference of amount of reports from media. Japanese media are reporting this incident taking a long time and using shocking images. On the other hand, it is said that Chinese media doesn't report this at all. If I talk this topic with Chinese friend, I may explain information of media from beginning to end. Second thing is a difference of historical understanding. Typical problems between Japan and China like Yasukuni Shrine or the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands Dispute are caused by understanding gap between two countries, I think. Each country has each insistent based on own theory. We should persue a common ground. For that, we should continue exchange opinion calmly from objective point of view. However, I feel Japanese young peoples seems to be indifferent to this kind of matter as a friend who are disgusted with incident in China. When we are asked about not only present problems also its background, how many Japanese young people answer them and agree or disagree if we are insisted Chinese stance or opinions? This may be different subject but one of my friend studying in Korea regreted that she haven't studied Japanese history well. I heard that she cannot answer Korean student's opinion.
It seems that the more Japanese take vague correspondence, the more the anti-Japanese sentiment will increace because Japanese haven't got onto the stage for solution. At the same time "some" Chinese people should notice that riot never suitable way to attract Japanese attention.

50cc Riders

Now Tokyo is in a climax of the season of cherry blossoms. However, as it is apparentlly ordinary to go by train, we promised to get deperture point(Shinjuku) by 50cc motor bike.
It took about 1 and quarter hour from my home to Sinjuku. A couple days ago, my grandfather unexpectedly gave me a phone call and asked me to take him to his sister living in Chofu.
Exactly one and half years ago, he visited Tokyo under the same situation and same reason. After I met him at the bus stop, as the time when I met him in Tokyo one and half years ago, we ate Sushi talking about current situation of each other.
His oldest sister (a grandaunt for me) have been bedridden for some years. When I asked him why you decide to visit her, he said he suddenly felt never to be able to see her again. This is first time for me having slept until such late time. Last night I joined farewell party for senior of my study group. We took First Ferry which costs us 140HK$. To my surprise, I should through customs and show my passport. Actually, although Macau and Hong Kong was leased territory, Special Administrative Region government seems to be independent from mainland to some extent.
We three Japanese met a Macanese at the exit of the custome. He called out to make us take part in his tour. His Japanese was relatively good, looks honesty, the price which he suggested was even. We decided to go around with him eventually.
His name is Ao. He said he trained his Japanese by myself. Except for it, he can speak English and Putonghua. Now he studies Korean also by himself.
We went around every famous place in the island. Macao Tower, Penha Church, Ma kok Miu, the border, the Ruins of St-Paul's Largo do Senado and so on. Compared with Hongkong, its atmosphere was really peaceful. I felt it little bit similar to that of Malacca.
Finally the tour was prolonged on account of our free and easy sight seeing. Therefore, all my family demand me to watch it.
I went to watch such sports game for the first time in many days. Eventually her team lost the game. But the atmosphere created by passion of players and supporters make me realize my high school days which I concentrate on playing soccer every day until late at night. I went there expecting that the price is almost same as Beijing or Shanghi. But in fact it was 70% of the price in Japan concerning food and cloths (this is about goods sold in reliable store). In my original plan, I was going to visit Taiwan to get round-trip ticket in Hong Kong. But, I come to be short of cash, I couldn't achive that. I stayed last 5days in hostel located in the 15th floor (in HK, we count floor by British way) of Chungking Mansions (this is the stage of Chungking Express 邦題：恋する惑星) My room was domitory accommodeting 10 persons. Dirty and humid. One of the room mate said this hostel is the cheapest hostel in HK. Its room charge was 60 HK$ per day (1 HK$≒14 yen). During 5 days stay, I could meet many kind of back packers from all over the world.

From the window of the hostel. During first 5days I went sightseeing with my two friends. However, Since the air ticket allows me to stay 10days in the maximum, and I didn't have schedule in paticular, only I stayed there for ten days.
I was afraid whether the meals in HK are reglettable for me.(e.g. When I traveld to Thailand, extremely hot foods made me diarrhea.) But my warry was useless. We're always satisfied no matter how we ate (Especially, 雲呑麺, 粥 and 点心). And shopping malls and markets are really huge. It might be heven for those who loves shopping.
I'd like to look back over the travel little by little.

From the ferry to Hong Kong Island

Hong Kong Calling

It was extremely severe schedule yesterday. I've come back from Madarao Mountain by late-night bus. As the price of snowboarding tour was really cheap (about 14000yen including round trip bus, staying expense, lift ticket and rental snowboard charge), the quality of the bus wasn't so good and I was suffered from pain in hip for 10 hour on account of hard seat of the bus. At 4:30 in the morning I and friends arrived at Ikebukuro. I had a appointment with other friends (JCSC members), I should go back my room once by the first train of Yamanote Line and Keio Line. After taking shower a short time, I left for Keio Univ. to take part in symposium with an invitation from a professor who reported her research in the symposium. Theme was consolidating and adjustment of public opinion in China. This symposium seems to have been for researchers, therefore it was little bit difficult for us. We finished after attending the professor's report and went a concert hall at Shibuya. I've invited concert of Twelve Girl's Band. They play Chinese traditional instrument. As their music are unique in respect of crossover it's traditional instrument and contemporary music, they've attracted Japanese (I feel it's especially for 40s above). These days, as I had some chances to get to know Chinese singers through JCSC, I expected that I can contact with a member of the band by any chance. But it was impossible. Although I didn't know this band well ( to tell the truth, I've dozed a moment), audience in the hall got into swing as the concert approaches to the end. Last year, there occuered unprecedented South Korean boom (韓流). The following might possibly be Chinese music or culture booms. It's 10 o'clock in Tokyo. From today to 16, I and friend of high school will travel to Hong Kong. The reason is just interesting. As for me, I'm interested in a base of trading in Asia such as Singapore, Shang hi and so on. I'd like to feel the energy of Hong Kong people.

Mt. The hard preparation eventually was rewarded with the precious time during the conference. That gave me good impact and motivated my language or majour study. I can spend this long spring vacation without falling into so called burnout syndrome. Today I went to Rikkyo Univ. at Ikebukuro for the edit of JCSC report book. Last time I was in charge of edit. Actually this kind of edit work is to my advantage of PC skill. However, It's quite a burden and this time fortunately all I should do is just submit some manuscripts. I'll help younger editer. Tomorrow, I and friends of my seminer will go snowbording at Madarao, Nagano prefecture. I used to go this mountain. I'd like to enjoy snowbording naturally.

I also went snowbording last year. From Feb 4 to 12, The 23rd Japan-China Student Conference was held in Tokyo. I've took part in this conference from the 22th (it was in China on last August) and this time Im in charge of the conference. After finishing making report book of the 22rd, I and members start preparation. Chinese people cannot travel Japan without visa. Therefore we should take permition from some facilities. This must bother those who invite Chinese people rather than Chinese people themselves. During Conference, we had some discussions and culture exchanging party. I joined a group which discuss about IT oriented society. Especially focusing on media literacy, we discussed report between Japan and China. According to a survey, those who have good intention for each country don't reach 20%. Why is it. We can make very good friends in such a situation. Once we get information through media, we've been influenced. For each country's people, It must be important to learn medeia literacy ability. It was also interesting that we have different recognition about freedom of report. Wrong report and some influence according to it will usually be judged in a court in Japan after its series of influence. But in China, government restrict a report which will take but influence in advance. For Japanese student, its strange to restrict information, but for Chinese student, advance measure is valid for people's life. We could be best friend beyond the high and distant border. When I shook hands with each Chinese members, I (and all the members) shed tears. At that time I strongly feel that we can change two country's relationship. I should spread this activity more and more.

The23rdJCSC The9thJapan.

FUTSAL

My phone call let me get up at 11:30. My friend say something in a loud and little bit angry voice. I overslept and was late the time set for practicing of FUTSAL. I belong to a FUTSAL club in my univ. I was originally a soccer player from primaly school to high school, but I couldn't find a good soccer club going well with my schedule after entrance Univ. However, I'd like to continue to play this sort of sports. So I chose do this. FUTSAL is more easy sports compared with soccer because we can do it with small number of members and in small court. Today as it was relatively cold (6℃), wind blowing from the fromt of my motorcycle was severe. I love to do sports in cold weather, I could enjoy the 2 hours.

The University Entrance Exam Center test

Tomorrow, here comes very important common test for all high school students in Japan. This is held for two days and subjects are Japanese, Foreign language (English), Math, Social Studies and Science. In fact each subjects are classified with some kinds, students should choose some subjects according to university's application information. When I was a student preparing for the exam, I should have took all the subject because I tried for a public university.
Fundamentally, those who wanna try public university should take this test. After the result of this become clear, we choose which Univ one should take according to diviation . As I failed that, I'm now a (good) student of this private Univ. We can take any number of exams of private univ.
I heard weather is snow from tomorrow. A small blue book was enclosed. As I become 20 years old, government send me a certificate of pension. According to Japanese law, we should join pension by force when we become 20 years old. The price per mounth is 13300 yen!! too expensive! If I earn money as a worker, there is nothing for it but to pay. But for student as me, monthly income is a mere trace of amount. Of cource I must pay for school expence, house rent, heating and lighting expence, food expence and so on. Therefore there is a system granting students a postponement until we graduate university. So I should go to a city office to apply this.

Japanese pension system has many probrems. The birthrate have decreased and it is said that the population will start to decrease from 2006 at the earliest. On the other hand, young people who make their living by part-time job have increased these days. Moreover, those who don't join system amount considerable number. As even some Dietmen didn't join it (Prime Minister Koizumi was also suspected last year). The present system obviously will come to stand still.

Happy New Year

It's been a long time. As my birthday is Jan. 2nd, the end of this year means the end of my teenager on the other hand. In fact, I don't wanna be adult accompanied some liabilities. However, from the legal point of view, I will be able to live in comfort because I can drink legally.

In Japan, ceremony for new adults on Coming-of-Age Day (Jan. second Monday) will be held in all districs. People attend that ceremony wear traditional Kimono and meet again with schoolmates. There are many students living in some cities where far from own hometown. Therefore, such people including me should go back own town and take part in that ceremony in each hometown. I'm very looking forward to meeting my schoolmates of Junior high or primary school.

When it comes to Coming-of-Age Day, some rude young guys behave violently or make a noise though ceremony is carried out in each place of ceremony and become absurd news. There are 6 kind of coins and 3 kind of paper moneys in Japan. This time the design of the paper moneys have changed as below picture. I heard that there have passed 20 years since its design was changed last time. Maybe this is when I was born. I could get these moneys when I withdraw some money for living. "That's like a toy money" was my first impression. It seems to become burden for Vending machine company because they must change the money reader.
Yes, I forgot there is another kind of paper money, 2000 yen. We can scarcely get it.

On 5000 yen, there is printed a woman, "Higuchi Ichiyou", who is a novelst. We three guys researched about Overseas Chinese. In my part, I especially focused on their Identity and Networking. It was very difficult to provide the concept of Identity. "According to thesis of E.H Erikson who is proponent of this word, the main meaning of Identity is evidence of what I am. Therefore Identity is easily influenced by factors surrounding a person such as society or culture." On the essay I read, such explanation is illustrated character of Identity. Finally I analyzed their Identity from three factor such as "Deep-rooted sense of belongings to China" "Utilize their marginal stance for self achievement" "Flexible sense of belongings to social connection". Although I made such a presentation to class members, actually I think its impossible to generalize Identity. Do you say what you are with confident? Maybe this presentation was introduction of tendency about them.

Chinatown in Singapore. That's because of disaster. As two Big typhoon have already landed, There are many rainy days recently. I had no class on the day which typhoon passes.

Besides, on last Saturday, Big earthquake has struck focusing on Niigata Prefecture. It registered seismic intensity 6. Is it universal criterion? In Japan, the Meteorological Agency measure the strength of earthquake with 10 level from 0 to 7(5 and 6 is divided lower and upper). Generally it is saied that Japan is struck by many earthquake. In fact I sometimes feel certain level of shaking as surface of water in a glass waves. If I remember right, the reason why Japan is struck by many earthquake is because Japan is located on the boundary of the four plate.

As my hometown, Nagano, is next to Niigata Prefecture, I'm afraid something may be happened with my parents by the inflence of that. However, there happened nothing. They saied the level was 5 in the Nagano City. As for me driving in Tokyo, feel nothing.

On the contrary, in devastated area sufferer are waiting assistance and not only plenty of water, foods and so on, also lavatory, residence, measure to get in touch with their relatives. Same as the other past earthquake, slow management by government is blamed from the field. I heard death toll amounts to 27 and 103,000 people evacuated to School gym or hall.

When The earthquake happened, I stayed here (suburb of Tokyo,Okutama)

Contact Degradation

These days, I'm plowed under with two assignments. One is a edit work of report book about JCSC (see a post on Sep,12). This includes participant's essay and many photos toword it's conference. Aftre slight adjustment, I will be able to bring it to printing company. The other is imposed during International Relationship class. I should summarize a 300 pages book and this really fall on me.

If students are asked what your hobby is, most students are likely to say "Listening to music" or "watching movie". I also love them. Especially we can listen to music wherever we are with portable player. In this 0ne or two years, MP3 player have spread among young people. The sale of player carrying HDD such as i pod( from apple computer) is amazingly increasing. According to this situation, we must take music files to our personal computer. Once taking it in computer, we can easily exchange our files with friends and there happens possibility to exchange among unspecified persons with P2P system. Then some Japanese music companies sells Copy Control CD to deal with this situation. This style disc is a disc made as CD and does't allow us to take music files in PC. Accompanied by spreading of MP3 player, CCCD become target of blame and gradually it's amount will be decreased. It's a difficult problem how deal with copyright protection.

Today I bought a CD of Japanese Rock band one of the popular groups these days. Although formal release date is tomorrow, CD shop generally display on new released stand.

Solfa by Asian Kung-Fu Generation. http://www.asiankung-fu.com/ you can listen a little here.

At a Cafeteria

I heard that most universities in foreign country have dormitory within the precincts of the university. It may be natural for the countries have vast land such as the USA or China. But in Japan, university has dormitory is very rare case. Since I'm originally from countryside about 3 hours from Tokyo, I rent a small apartment room near my university and it costs me about 45000 yen per month. This price is cheeper one because my university locates destante place from downtown (I should say my university locates in a mountain) If we choose a room more near from big town, it costs you more.
This photo is a menu I ate today as lunch. I think cafeteria in this university is largest one among other Japanese university's cafeteria. There are about 10 cafeterias in four floor building. We can eat various foods such as Chinese, Western dish, Italian, fast food, of cource Japanese dish. I usually use there every lunch because there are few shops around university. Most of the students cannot but use there. My avarage budget is 350 yen but today I spent 500 yen.

Matsutake rice with fish and chicken. Today, I took part in a class which is about International-relations theory. I'm really interested in this kind of study, however, the content of that class terribly made me bored. It's caused by a professor of that class. He never try to draw our interest and just utters his voice without intonation. Of cource, I had slept about half time of the class as other students did. In addition, He imposed a report about IR based on a book. This book is written by that professor. besides it cost us ￥5600! He must make light of students!
These days, it become one of my practice to make tea for me. Though I have some kind of leaves, Jasmine tea is favorite one. Its taste and flavor makes me relaxed. About tea, I've read that the way of calling tea may indicate a cultual border between Asia and Europe. We Japanese and other Asian people call this drink "Cha" or "Chai". On the other hand, Europian people call it "tea". When it comes to Turkey, they call it "Chai". unn....interesting.

Tea Set bought at a Chinese Medicine Shop in Singapore. I've tried Jasmine(at Beijing),Lung Ching(at Hang Zhou)and oolong. Do you know where other teas come from?

Rainy Sunday

What do you usually do when you have free time?
Since its rained today, I didn't feel like going out somewhere. I made my mind to do a lot of house work. Listening to my favorite music, I creaned up my small room, did dishes of last night, cooked lanch because I woke up at 11 am (so lazy!). Incidentally, Today's lunch is rice, roasted pork and umeboshi(sour plum).
I'm in charge of the report of JCSC (*see the post on Sep. 12). Therefore it's usual case sitting in front of my personal computer thesedays. Reading member's manuscript and looking over huge number of photographs, I recalled that precious two weeks in Beijing and Shanghi. And I accepted manuscripts from Chinese members. This edit work really is a burden on me, but the contents of them cause my motivation.
However, new term of my university has began from last week and in fact I should restart my study. I'm now in sophomore and also this is very time chooging my majour. Although I've repeated casual studies up to my curiosity, now that my teenage age remains just for 3 months, I'd like to narrow what I really interested in and try to get special knowledge.
Anyway please looking forward to accomplishment of the report book. You can read it in Both Japanese and Chinese.

Monjayaki I ate last night (maybe this food doesn't have English name).Apperance mustn't be good...

A day I have nothing to do

I got up at 8:00 and today I especially had nothing to do. These days I haven't cared my belongings, my small room(just a six-tatami sized room) became full of garbage.Besides my parents and grand parents send groceries because I have used up groceries in order not to make it gone off befor I travel to China. Therefore, there were full of various things.
In the box from my parents is also full of the foods which represent tastes of autumn, such as pear, black grape and saury. Although it was very hot in the daytime, gradually it became cooler from the evening. It convenient for me because since unfortunatelly my room face toward west, sunlight directry get in through the window, and the temperature of the room amounts to 40 degrees during summer.

We Japanese call the season of autumn with many proverbs. For example, "Shokuyoku no Aki(Autumn of appetite)","Dokusyo no Aki(Autumn of reading)","Undou no Aki(Autumn of Sports)"and so on(I don't know whether it is accurate expression in English). Acutually, I fell I eat more, read more, play sports compared with other season. However, it's better to say these things are done by proverb rather than independently. When I hear these words from friends, advertisement in shops, TV and so on, I come to have such a feeling to do so. In fact, I have bought three used books for resource today.

Aki no Mikaku (The Tastes of Autumn)

Japan-China Students Conference

Yesterday, the regular meeting of Japan-China students conference(JCSC)was held at Waseda University around 3 o'clock. This group aim for friendship between Japan and China through discussion and some events with chinese university students. This time is 22nd conference and it was held in China(Beijing and Shanghi)from 16th to 30th last month.

JCSC consists of about 20 university students and members gather from various universities. We have prepared for JCSC in China by holdoing meeting once a week. In China,we carried out five days(three days in Beijing, two days in Shanghi)debate, hold a party which chinese students and Japanese students introduce each other's cultures, went out tourist attraction with chinese friends and so on.

I think the meeting was a great success.I could make many chinese friends and exchange our opinions.Japan and China has many difficulties from historical viewpoint.Actually both country's people have delicate feelings for each countries. But I felt this is because people don't have a way to know true circumstances. In fact, in the debate, Japanese studens sometimes have wrong information about China and same things happend for Chinese students.Through the debate,we can notice misunderstanding and also many similarities. To having such a conference,I think situation between Japan and China will be improved little by little.

Anyway, thanks a lot all the members and I'm looking forward to next conferens in Tokyo.

JCSC in Beijing (at University of International Bussiness and Economics)

To the beginning

I decided to begin weblog.
